... without fear or favor ..." The New York Times, 1896
November 1, 2007: Website "Off-line"
MDN-Rejected.com is taken off-line whenever there is a period on relative inactivity in Dioxin Issues facing the Midland-Saginaw Area. Even though there is always something occurring, at this time, input from MDN-Rejected is not needed.
David Linhardt Publisher November 1, 2007
The pledge to practice journalism "... without fear or favor ..." is one that all journalists make. But their ability to live up to that oath is largely in the hands of their publishers. Publishers must set a tone of independence and impartiality – not only by what they say, but also by what they do when the pressure is on. Based on a criteria of "... without fear or favor ...", I do not believe that the publishers of the Midland Daily News have not served their readers or this small Michigan community well –
• through fear of legal reprise from a multi-billion dollar corporation responsible for the wide-spread dioxin contamination present in the city and adjacent river.
• through favor by allowing editorial access to Dow Chemical supporters while severely limiting access to company critics.
MDN-Rejected.com is being published to give a voice to those that wish to speak "... without fear or favor ..."
