"... without fear or favor ..." The New York Times, 1896
"Science is
organized knowledge. Wisdom is organized life."
"The
important thing in science is not so much to obtain new facts as to
discover new ways of thinking about them."
July 27, 2006 Editorial - NAS Review of 2003 Reassessment
The National Academies of Science released its long awaited review of the Environmental Protection Agency's 2003 Exposure and Human Health Reassessment of 2,3,7,8-Tetrachlorodibenzo-p-Dioxin (TCDD) and Related Compounds. Shortly thereafter, the Midland Daily News posted an editorial by a well known critic of the EPA. The Op-Ed did not provide a balanced perspective on the Reassessment and failed to note, among many things, that the NAS agreed with the majority of the Reassessment including a unanimous agreement that TCDD is a "likely human carcinogen", a classification that has significant public health implications.
